RACE REPORT
There was a great turn out of cars at Taipa track for Sunday 3 February racing. Large fields of Mens Production, and Juniors battled for placings over the three rounds.
Junior Daniel De Waal again came through to win 2 of the 3 rounds. Chris Weal had a great third race to come in ahead of Daniel.
Shay Carey improved to be the 3rd round winner in mens production, after he had given the spectators much, hairy, bank touching, dust raising action during the first two rounds. Bruce Mallindine and Rhys Andresen won first and second rounds respectively.
Mens Super and Limited saloon drivers Max Andresen, Geordie Inglis, and Bryan Armstrong had good close racing with the lead changing throughout the day. Kaikohe’s Steve Peers gave the Mens C field hard competitive racing to win the first round, and again in the second round for third.
Brian O’Connell and Kelvin Coates had their B Grade saloons hard out and were joined by Ivan Ballantine for the third race after some setup issues. Brian’s Buick took out all three races.
Ladies Production driver, Hine Thompson, looked to be set for three wins for the day, but a coming together with Sara Hockenhull in the third race forced her to retire to centrefield. Carole Teixeira led the third race for the win.
Kaikohe’s Wendy Scott showed the Ladies C Grade field a clean pair of heels for all three races, with Raewyn Melrose gaining second in both the second and third rounds.
Shirley Andresen and Shevana Williams battled for three rounds in their Super saloons. Shirley winning two but the third round was all Shevana’s.
The Stockcar boys (and girl) bashed, crashed, spun, and nearly rolled (thanks Matui) for three rounds. Matui Peel won the first two rounds but was last seen up the bank teetering for a roll, but gradually settling back on his wheels.
The last race of the day, the ‘all-in’ was won by Rob Weal in his C Grade Datsun 180B.

Taipa Track Welcomed Visiting Cars and Drivers on Sunday 13 January
Visiting ladies production driver, Alyssa McPhail, from Waiheke Dirt Track Club, gave a spectacular demonstration of ‘getting out of shape’ and climbing the bank past the commentators’ box in the third round of Sunday’s Taipa Stock and Saloon Car Club race meeting. She was driving a Taipa Club Car, Amber O’Connnell’s blue Torana, no 16, which finally came to rest on its side up the bank.
Kaikohe Car Club members were there in force with seven visiting cars. Keith Wilson and Max Andresen were going hard out in their Super Saloons against Brian Armstrong’s Limited Saloon, no 88.
Both Taipa Production Men, and Production Ladies, enjoyed great racing with Kaikohe drivers, Tony Taylor and Debbie Beadle in their midst.
New Taipa Ladies C Grade driver, Kayne Tatnell, drove excellent races for her first racing day, with excellent results. Raewyn Melrose, in nephew Daniel De Waal’s car no 22, also had very successful placings, winning two of the three rounds.
Junior driver, Daniel De Waal, only 11 years of age, once again showed great driving skills to win two of the three Junior rounds. After racing was over, Carole Teixeira, Production Grade Nissan Fairlady, and Daniel, C Grade Honda Civic, drove a few laps in each others cars. Daniel said he really enjoyed driving the larger horsepower of the rear wheel drive Nissan. Daniel is showing great promise as a young driver to be reckoned with in the future.
The stockcar men drove their ‘biff and bash’ racing style with many ‘turn arounds’ for the spectators to watch.
The ‘all-in’ field for the last race of the day saw over 20 cars on the track, with the Super and LTD boys having to lap the other cars twice; This was an awesome race to watch with some very close and hard out racing. Production drivers Tony Taylor, George Price, Bruce Mallindine, and Grant Kidd all pushed hard to get past one another. This all came to an end for Grant when he lost his back axle. The wheel went flying over Tony Taylor, and was last seen disappearing into the swamp over the bank. Shay Carey was also back out in the ‘all-in’, in his new VN Commodore 100T, after having fuel problems in the first three rounds. Rhys Andresen 17k was getting quicker as he was coming to grips with holding good lines with his new VK Commodore.
